Here is what's going on at Bethlehem Lutheran

Sunday- September 5th- Divine Service with Holy communion--9:00 a.m.

S.S. / Bible class–10:15 a.m.

Pastor Vail’s radio program KJ Country -8:00 a.m.

Television broadcast of the morning worship service on Altamont (Channel 22) 5:30p.m.

 

Bethlehem is planning on having the float in the St. Elmo parade on Labor Day, September 6th All walkers are welcome. The parade time is 10:00 a.m.

 

Bethlehem Church will be having a Pork Burger and Bake Sale on Saturday, September 11th on the Altamont triangle from 10:00a.m.-1:00 p.m. Proceeds will go toward helping to pay for

 expenses of our upcoming 150th anniversary in 2011. Workers and bake sale items will be needed beginning at 9:00 a.m. Bake sale items need to be at the triangle by 9:00a.m. Saturday. If you

 are unable to take the bake sale items on Saturday, you may drop them off at the Bethlehem School on Friday via the office door between 10:00a.m.and 4:00 p.m. Please contact Sherri

 Sttullmyer if you can volunteer at 618-553-0960.


 

Bethlehem women are cordially invited to the 2010 Altamont Zone L.W.M.L. Fall Rally. Hosted by Salem Lutheran Church Ladies Circle at Salem Lutheran Church at Salem on Wednesday,

 September 22, 2010. Registration 9:00a.m.- 10:00a.m. offering a continental breakfast. Opening devotions 10:00 a.m. Lunch will be served. Rally Theme “GO TELL IT....EVERYWHERE”. Guest

 speaker: Rev. Andris Kraulins from Latvia. Please give reservations to Denise Stine by Sept. 9th. The ingathering project Salem Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry. A list of suggested items need is

 posted on the bulletin board in narthex.

 

 

The Communications Committee of the Central Illinois District has suspended publication of the GatePost for an indefinite time. The tentative plan is for three editions per year with a special

 focus for each issue..

 

Update on the 150th anniversary committee:

150th anniversary Theme “To the Glory of God and the Salvation of Man”

Special anniversary Sunday celebrations:

March 27, 2011 Confirmation reunion 2:00 p.m

July 3, 2011 and September 11, 2011.

All special anniversary Sunday celebrations will have two services each Sunday 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. with special speakers.

 

Pictures will be taken of all members for the pictorial directory by Olan Mills with appointments scheduled at families convenience:

Thursday, November 11, 2010 (2:00–9:30 p.m.

Friday, November 12, 2010 ( 2:00-9:30 p.m)

Saturday, November 13, 2010 (9:30-5:10 p.m.)

 

Workday for the church property has been schedule for Saturday, September 18th for the general clean-up of church grounds and to work on various projects for the repairs that need to be

 done before the 150th anniversary celebration next year. Please mark your calendars to reserve the date.


 

The 150th committee is continuing their search for confirmation pictures and the years that are missing are listed below to the best of our records.

1945,1957,1970,1980,1983,1985,1986,1988,1990,1995,2003,2005-2009.

Mission Festival Sunday on September 26, 2010 has been set as the date for scanning historical photographs or original confirmation pictures, which may be useful for the church’s 150th

 anniversary plans. Bob Mercier has offered to provide the equipment and technical expertise necessary to fulfil the task of having your original photos scanned and returned to you the same day.


 

ALIS NEWS:

Altamont Lutheran Interparish School is in need of filling three coaching positions. The open positions are girl’s softball coach, girls’ volleyball coach, and fifth and sixth grade cheerleading

 coach. The softball season will be from July to September. The volleyball season will be from December to March. The fifth and sixth grade cheerleading season will be from December to

 March. If you are interested in filling any of thess positions, please contact Mr. Wes Jones at ALIS (618-483-6428) during school hours to set up an interview.

 

 

Pastor Vail is requesting the names, addresses and e-mail address if applicable , of all members and members spouses that are in the military. Pastor would also like the names and addresses of

 all students that are in college if living at home or living at college. Please email the names and addresses to bethlehem@altamont.net or give to Pastor Vail at church.

 

Reservations to schedule use of the Parish Hall needs to be made by calling the church office, to check the dates of reunions, weddings, wedding anniversaries, confirmations, etc.

 Reservations need to be scheduled by calling the office 618-483-6756 during office hours and leave a message, if no answer, and your call will be returned.


 

The Mission Outreach of the church is unable to ship recycled religious material at this time. Temporarily the Portals of Prayer is the only religious material

 that we can collect to recycle.
